Best 2 Person Backpacking Tent – Enjoy Together In The Wilderness

best 2 person backpacking tent

The last hiking trip I took, my brand new backpacking tent really failed me. I had purchased the first and cheapest one that I could find. The material was too cheap and tore as I passed through a narrow ledge. At night, the ripped tent couldn’t break much wind, couldn’t keep much heat in, and really didn’t fit the two people that it said it did.

Don’t end up like my trip! When you go hiking you want the best 2 person backpacking tent for you and your friend. After all, you’ll only bring one tent and finding out that it fares poorly on a rough weather night can really can really bring down your spirits, as well as eating into your precious sleep and peace of mind, which are needed to refill your stamina on the long hike.

MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2 Person Lightweight Backpacking Tent

MSR Hubba Hubba NXI found this MSR Hubba Hubba NX backpacking tent on Amazon’s shopping website comes in a fashionable maroon and smoke grey coloration, and I love it! It’s made of 20-denier ripstop nylon but its mesh parts are 15-denier. All folded up, it weighs just over 3 pounds, so it was easy to lug around.

The tent also has two side vestibules to dry clothing or store things, as well as two doors, and a ventilating rainfly. It’s a 3 – 4 season tent that comfortably houses 2 people and their 2 adult sized sleeping bags.

It’s also wind resistant as well as rain resistant, but it doesn’t say so on the box. It also doesn’t say on the box that the tent comes with some guy lines so that you can keep the rain fly from flapping around in the wind. This tent doesn’t come with a manufacturer warranty, but you can always purchase one through a shopping website dealer like Amazon.

When I got my tent in the mail, I was confused by the picture on the box because it looked like a photoshopped unsolvable visual eye-puzzle. That picture on the box is actually showing a sort of cross-section of what the inner tent would look like without the outer-tent over it.

Initially, I wasn’t sure how I felt about having two layers of tent like that, but I did like the super configurable way that it works, so that I can make sure that anything bulky or irregular shaped is covered by my vestibule.

My box arrived in good time, and it only had one minor scuff on one end, but it didn’t damage the product inside. The tent was adequately packaged with just enough stuffing inside its box, and I didn’t have a hard time taking it out of the box, as some products do that.

set up a tentThe first time I set up my tent, it took about 10 minutes, but only because my dog carried away a leg when I wasn’t looking, so I thought I was missing a piece. I feel pretty confident I can set it up again without the instructions in under 5 minutes.

I was also confused because the poles started to bend a bit through the process. No worries! I looked it up on the website and a little bit of bending is perfectly normal and intended. So if a rainstorm was coming, I feel safe and secure that I can quickly set up and stake my tent and take shelter.

When I took it down, it took a little over 5 minutes. It packs up surprisingly small and I liked the carry bag.

Hiking with the MSR Hubba Hubba NX

I chose a difficult path, so when it was time to make camp, it was dark and I was very tired. Still, I had no problems setting up the tent for the night, and really only referred to the instructions on one step when I had a brain fart and couldn’t remember what to do next. So if I could put it together being that tired, it passes my seal of approval!

The inside of the tent was about what I expected. With two adult sleeping bags, there was about 8 inches of free space on all sides, so I was happy about that. I also got a compliment from some children that my tent looked cool, so that was neat.

I was concerned about the heavy raccoon activity because the spot I picked was a popular overnight spot, but I didn’t have any issues with the furry wilderness bandits getting into my tent or taking any of my things. During the night, it started to rain, but as the night progressed, it turned into snow.

I set up my trust portable heater just in case, but I didn’t need it as the tent did a great job of keeping the heat inside my tent and sleeping bag. I had put some belongings in the vestibule parts of the tent, and they stayed nice and dry on one side. On the other side, I had put a cooler in a decline, so water seeped under the vestibule wall and made a small puddle there, but that was my fault.

The second night camping was much the same except that it wasn’t as cold, but it was very windy. Two other camping tents blew over during the night, but my MSR Hubba Hubba NX stayed up nice and strong, safe and secure.

I enjoyed my time with this tent, and I really didn’t have any problems with it. I felt that the fabric was sturdy, the ventilation was very good, and the quality of the materials were quite high.

MSR Hubba Hubba NX: The Best 2 Person Backpacking Tent!

The MSR Hubba Hubba was so light that I honestly forgot it was on my back. The fabric was durable and amazingly strong, and it weathered me through a rough and stormy night, no problem. I really loved the way that I could position the vestibules, and it did a great job at keeping the sleet and snow out and keeping my heat inside. I didn’t have any problems with critters or insects, either. I have no problem naming the MSR Hubba Hubba NX the king and best 2 person backpacking tent there is.
